DRIVING WIDER SOCIAL CHANGE THROUGH FOOD AND COOKING

Introducing Cook for Change, our new programme

We’ve learned a lot about what works (and what doesn’t) in the first few years of Cook for Good. And we’ve been keen to share what we’ve learned with potential social entrepreneurs. So we’ve launched a fully subsidised programme, Cook for Change, to inspire and encourage others to create their own food and cooking based social enterprises.

WHY IS IT NEEDED?

Grant funding is shrinking, which means social organisations need to find innovative ways to generate sustainable incomes. We’ve been there and done that, creating a live example of how social enterprises can tackle social challenges like food insecurity, health inequality and barriers to work. Now we want to help others develop their own sustainable solutions.

how did it unfold?

We kicked off the programme in April, with a three-day immersive bootcamp. Participants got an under-the-bonnet look at our innovative social trading model, heard from the people behind Fat Macy’s and The Dusty Knuckle about their social enterprise journeys, and joined a network of fellow innovators for a social impact adventure.

what happened next?

The bootcamp was followed by a suite of  1:1 and group mentoring sessions. Our Cook for Changers were supported to craft new business plans informed by what they'd learned, and had the chance to pitch them to a panel of experts at a June networking event. They're now receiving ongoing support from us and our partner organisations; we’ll be sharing news about how they're getting on via LinkedIn and Instagram, so do follow us for updates.

Thanks to Fusion 21, Peabody and Wates Family Enterprise Trust for funding Cook for Change, and to The Dusty Knuckle and Fat Macy’s for co-hosting our bootcamp.
