Are you a kitchen newbie who needs to learn a few skills to get started?
Or a parent or carer who wants to add some new, affordable meals to your week? Or are you living alone and looking for a way to get out and do something different?
We’ve put together a programme of cooking classes, for local people of all ages and experience levels. They’re fun, friendly sessions, designed to give you the skills and confidence you need to enjoy cooking for yourself and others.
Some are courses that run for several weeks, others are one-offs or drop-offs; they’re all either free or very low cost. And you’ll always get to eat what you’ve made, or take it home for later.
We’re finalising our schedule right now, and will post all our different classes and courses here once they’re available to book. In the meantime, here’s a flavour of what we’ll be offering.
Join us for an intro course, which will take you through the basics you need to create meals from scratch. From chopping and preparing meat and vegetables to making perfect rice every time, you’ll learn skills and tricks to boost your confidence.
Call in to the kitchen on your way home from school and learn how to make smoothies, snacks and light bites that will keep you going all the way until dinner. You’ll get to eat (or drink) whatever you make, and we’ll give you the recipes to take home.
Come and learn how to cook a family meal from scratch. We’ll provide the ingredients and take you through the recipe step by step. Your family can take part in the cooking, or join you later to eat your meal; or, if you prefer, you can take it home.
Find out how to turn the contents of your Pantry basket into some quick and tasty meals. We’ll take you through the best way to prep any unusual ingredients, and suggest some recipes that combine what you’ve got with storecupboard staples.
If you live in the Kings Cross area, and are interested in joining us for cooking classes and / or community meals, please sign up here. We’ll get in touch when we’re putting on a new class or meal, and will allocate places on a first-come-first-served basis.
