COMMUNITY PROJECTS
Help us create a space to help and support people through cooking
In the heart of the UK’s big cities, too many people are suffering from social isolation and food poverty. We’re aiming to tackle this by building a series of community kitchens, to help feed, support and bring together people in need.
We will provide opportunities for local businesses and their employees to support community projects in the neighbourhoods where they operate.
We’ve identified our first site, in London’s Kings Cross, and have a plan in place to bring it to life. Now we’re asking for donations to help us make this a reality.
What’s the plan?
We are working in partnership with the Peabody Housing Association to transform a disused café on the Peabody Estate into a community kitchen. The estate is home to 4,000 people, and surrounded by other large estates; many residents are on low incomes and in need of support. We’re planning to provide it, by:

We are working in partnership with the Peabody Housing Association to transform a disused café on the Peabody Estate into a community kitchen. The estate is home to 4,000 people, and surrounded by other large estates; many residents are on low incomes and in need of support. We’re planning to provide it, by:
- Offering a community programme of online cooking classes for low-income families. These will help residents learn valuable cooking skills and connect with their neighbours.
- Establishing a Pantry, a local food shop surplus membership scheme, in partnership with FareShare London.
- Opening a soup kitchen that will make and distribute food for local homeless and vulnerable people.
- Offering employment support and volunteering opportunities for people who want to gain experience in the food and hospitality sector.
Once lockdown restrictions ease, we hope to expand the work of the kitchen to include:
- Face-face healthy eating cooking classes for adults and children, to promote healthy eating, develop cooking skills and build relationships
- Cooking and sharing meals with local residents to combat loneliness and social isolation, and to develop cross cultural community connections.
- Culinary skills training for people who would like to work in the food industry
- Corporate team building cooking events to support the community project - profit from which are reinvested into the community programme, and the event itself will produced food for the community and neighbouring centres of need (homeless shelters etc).
